We aim to get the pegs strimmed and tidied up in May, along with a few repairs
Many pegs have been topped off with artificial grass as an aid against slipping when wet.
And oh, how it was wet.
We always like to end the river season with a river match but this was totally thwarted by the rain that fell in the last few weeks of the season. The Mersey was well up and running for the last two weekends and the brave souls who ventured out had little reward. The match never happened.
One thing we anglers are good at is finding an excuse for not catching.
We have an active match group who started their yearly calendar at Dunham Fishery followed by Moss Farm, near Irlam, in April. The weather in the run up to them was ok for the time of year but the last two nights before the Moss Farm match we had unseasonal frosts which hit the catch results.
Our latest outing, to Hampton Springs on Willow Pool, was looking good with a long spell of higher than average daytime temperatures in the run up. The fish did indeed like that; so much so that it activated the annual spawn. There were fish thrashing in the margins, others roaming about looking for "nookie". I hooked, and lost, one carp and quite a few DNW's were recorded.
We are back on Moss Farm at the end of the month so hopefully they will have got it over with and need to feed.
Just a mention that these matches are available for all members, we pay the pegs fee on the day and have a small £5 pool for prize money. You won't get rich but it pays towards the bait or maybe a "latch lifter" for the pub after the match.
The match list was put up in a previous bulletin. Us match lads are a pretty friendly bunch but If unsure just give me or "H" a ring and we can sort out any queries you have.
