Aitch informs me that he and Batesy have been on the river strimming the pegs. It was hard work with the growth on there but pegs 3 to 15 are now sorted. Hopefully the weather will be kind for us for the Sunday morning match.

Well it is midsummers day already, the river season opened last week and it is wet. The recent weather has certainly encouraged growth and members inform me that the Mersey at Rixton is in need of a trim. H our illustrious Treasurer is all set to go strimming so we can find the pegs again. Unfortunately the farmer needs five dry days before he can crop the field so it is a little awkward walking along the river at the moment. Feedback from members who have fished are encouraging with roach and the odd bream showing. One item given me was that a member fishing on the weekend had a couple of canoeists row down from the ship canal and as they passed him they told him that thousands of fish were visible all the way from the canal and they were laying at a depth of 8ft. We all see fish topping but then throw out a feeder or run a float down at full depth so may well be missing out. I for one will be experimenting with my float settings.
The first of our Mersey matches is set for Sunday 26th, 08:00 on the car park, so I hope to see you all there. Last Sundays match on Greenwood was won by yours truly. The fishing was hampered by an oily film on the water that Julian says is caused by resin falling in from the surrounding trees. 1st Phil Newton 12lb 12oz 2nd Pete McNamara 4lb 8oz 3rd Keith Atkinson 2lb 8oz That's it for now "Tight Lines" |
