Next match is on Saturday 5th September at the Red Lion on the River Weaver. Usual 08:00 am at the venue. A recent match on there was won with 25 lb with lots of high teen backup weights.
Ste Bate's fish
"I'll say this to that"
As I write this we are in the middle of the August Bank Holiday Weekend. The weather is not too bad albeit a bit unseasonal chilliness in the air. We should have had a match on Sunday 30th but heavy rain in the run up left the Westy River Gauge showing a very strong flow (the level gauge has not been working since 10th August) and this deterred most, including me, from fishing. Well three hardy souls had a go. Peter and Dave Williams (no relation) and Ste Bate. They all caught fish and Dave and Ste had a Bream each. Few have been caught up to now this season so hopefully they have started feeding. Ste's fish was a nice "clumper" of 5lb 2oz. Next match is on Saturday 5th September at the Red Lion on the River Weaver. Usual 08:00 am at the venue. A recent match on there was won with 25 lb with lots of high teen backup weights. Just a quickie with some match news
Mersey 16/08/2020 1st Peter Williams 5 lb 8 oz 2nd Phil Newton 3 lb 5 oz 3rd Paul Williams 2 lb 7 oz Nine fished and everyone caught on a variety of methods. Winner on Bolo, me on 6m whip, Paul on feeder. Moss Farm Fishery, Lily's Pool 23/08/2020 1st Phil Colefield 42 lb Peg 12 2nd John Crosland 23 lb Peg 1 3rd Daz Kinsey 22 lb Peg 2 As can be seen the weights came from the end pegs as 12 fished. It was a case of the fish lost. I personally had virtually a bite a chuck for 5 hours but couldn't connect. We also fished thru' a deluge at the start of the match and it was windy too. Again everyone caught something. The lads expressed a desire to return to this venue and we were able to book for Saturday 19th September on the pool near the cafe (I forget the name) which I have been told has a good head of Bream so it won't be a Carp or bust approach. Before then we have the Mersey on 30/08/2020 and the River Weaver at Barnton, Red Lion on 5th September. Both the usual 08:00 am at the venue. "Tight Lines" The results from the last two Mersey matches are very encouraging with everyone catching on either float or lead and fish being spread along the stretch. On Sunday 2nd August we had the usual sight of fish topping all along the stretch with some appearing to be large specimens by the splash. No Bream showed in either match but there is a big surge in the number of Perch caught which seems to indicate a healthy food fish level.
Sunday 26th July 1st Phil Newton Peg 4 3 lb 7 oz 2nd Ste Bate Peg 3 2 lb 8 oz 3rd Jamie Allen Peg 14 2 lb 1 oz Sunday 2nd August 1st Peter Williams Peg 6 7 lb 4 oz 2nd Phil Newton Peg 4 5 lb 3 oz 3rd Jamie Allen Peg 4 5 lb 0 oz In the 2nd match 7 fished putting over 30 lbs on the scales so not a bad average weight. The river has really come good since the 1st match back in June that was won with ounces. Lots of bites from mainly small Roach with an increasing number of Perch. On a sad note, some kind soul has stolen the fake grass off peg 3, I kid you not. It has been removed with surgical precision and not mindless vandalism. It appears that for some members of society everything is fair game. I have visions of this person sat on the 10 ft x 10 ft piece of greenery, on a deck chair with umbrella supping a Singapore Sling. Well I hope it chokes you!! Next Saturday we are booked on Dunham Fishery “Copperbeach” pool. Usual 08:00 am at the venue. Hope to see you there. Later, on Saturday 22nd August, we are booked on Moss Farm, Irlam, on “Lily’s Pool”. I have heard that the fishery has now had a rule change that you can only use their own pellets, available from the onsite tackle shop. The owner has stated on Facebook that this measure is to try and keep the shop viable not as a money grabbing exercise. They are suffering due to online tackle sales. It cannot hurt if we all pop into the shop for a few bits and bobs as well as the mentioned pellets. Again 08:00 am at the venue. There is a Café too. "Tight Lines" |
