A poll of the members fishing indicated they were in favour of a fortnightly sweep on the river so we will kick of on Sunday 30th at the usual time.

"I'll say this to that"
Well the weather didn’t help us on the last listed match of the summer. Squally rain for most of it, though it did brighten up by the end of the 5 hours. Fishing wise we were all taught a lesson by Peter Williams. He put in a marvellous effort under the conditions using the Bolo and weighed in with 12 lbs 12 ozs (See photo). There was a big drop to 2nd placed Jimmy Wood with 3 lbs 8 ozs then Johnny Finch 3rd with 3 lbs 1 oz. Nine fished and everyone caught and had lots of bites. Unfortunately most of us were swayed by Jimmy Wood’s bream catch from the previous week and opted for the lead to trap some. It was not to be as none were caught. Finchy realised part way through and swapped to a waggler. This was a good decision as it meant he beat H in the River Knock Out Final. H had just under 2 lbs off the boat dock.

We have our final match, from the Match List, on Sunday on the Mersey at Rixton. We all know it has been in the doldrums through the summer. However Jimmy Woods fished a week back and had about 40 lb of fish (see photo). It took him a while to get them going but eventually he had roach, bream and hybrids on the feeder. The bream have finally turned up. The draw is at the usual time of 08:00 am on the car park. The match also includes the River Knock Out Final, Howard Jones “H” vs John Finch. With many of the matches ending with few fish caught the finalists got there by a fishy “Duckworth- Lewis” calculation. May the best angler win. The Stillwater KO was decided last Sunday on Greenwood Pool with Paul Williams running out the winner. Unfortunately his adversary, Pete McNamara, could not fish as he had an engagement that he couldn’t avoid. The Greenwood Match itself was on The Lagoon again and won by Keith Kerwen with 19 lbs. His mate Graham, fishing as a guest, was second with 8 lb. Yours truly was 3rd with just under 8 lb. Plenty of small fish to be had but not many carp. Keith, as he has done consistently, managed to suss them out better than the rest of us. Well done. We are planning on running a Mersey Sweepstake every 2 weeks starting on Sunday 30th September until the cold weather stops us. “Tight Lines” |
