Saturday 4th saw us on Hampton Springs Fishery on Meadow Pool.
1st Keith Kerwin 75 lb 9 oz
2nd Keith Atkinson 48 lb 8 oz
3rd Mark Holden 46 lb 10 oz
4th Phil Colefield 45 lb 7 oz
An excellent win by Keith who was landing a fish every time I glanced his way. The next three weights were pretty close as the anglers were opposite each other and could judge what the others were catching.
Next up was our yearly visit to the River Weaver, Red Lion, Barnton. We fished a “Rover” draw as for the first time we had anglers choosing to fish the pegs off to the right from the access. We couldn’t really judge if these pegs were better due to a low weight match.
1st Phil Newton 2 lb 1 oz
2nd Paul Williams 1 lb 10 oz
3rd Ste Beck 1 lb 4 oz
Saturday 18th saw us back at Hampton Springs on Willow Pool. A nice scenic pool in a figure of eight layout with a bridge across the centre.
1st Darren Kinsey 67 lb 4 oz
2nd Keith Kerwin 47 lb 12 oz
3rd Alan Jones 42 lb 3 oz
Last, but certainly not least, we were on our River Mersey stretch at Rixton. It has been a funny season up to now with pleasure anglers catching during the week but the fish doing a disappearing act during matches. The river was low, due to lack of recent rain, but fish were topping all along the stretch. A bright warm morning with little wind. Perfect, and the fish obliged for once.
1st Brian Kelly 13 lb 8 oz
2nd Peter Williams 12 lb 2 oz
3rd Barry Forber 8 lb 7 oz
4th Alan Jones 7 lb 10 oz
Barry had a Pike in his catch weighing 6 lb, one to note for any winter pikers in the club. The club weighing policy on pike has always been “If you can get it out you can weigh it in”.
We aim to fish a match on the Mersey roughly every two weeks from now on as long as members turn up. Next one Sunday 10th October.
