On a positive note there was no more issues with low oxygen on the river Mersey, the hot thundery weather abated (oh how it abated) and we got cooler, near autumnal, conditions in late July.
We commenced our Mersey Matches on 9th July and thru’ to today the catches have slowly improved. The last two have been fished on a high, fast flowing river due to the autumnal conditions having dropped a lot of rain in the northwest.
A couple of noticeable occurrences. Quite a few Eels showed in match catches probably spurred on their way upstream by the high water. Bream have also shown up in the last week, again probably due to conditions. They don’t normally turn up in numbers before September.
Longtime member Ste Bate had two nice specimens along with good Roach in a pleasure session last week.
Next Sundays match, 13th, is on Blundells East Lake and we are back on the Mersey on Sunday 20th. August matches conclude with our annual trip to the river Weaver, We are on the Red Lion stretch at Barnton on Saturday 26th.
